Job title: English/Arabic Translator and Language Service Assistant

The Palestinian Museum is seeking to hire a full-time English/Arabic Translator and Language Service Assistant as per the following details:
Tasks and responsibilities:
- translate archival content from Arabic into English and vice versa as per the Digital Archive Glossary of Terms and Facts and Enchiridion of Use and Style.
- collect terms and build up glossaries.
- proofread translated archival contents from Arabic into English and vice versa.
- transliterate Arabic names into English as per the IJMES Transliteration System.
- spot-check specific translated chunks.
- assist the Digital Archive Project copyeditor in developing the Project Style Enchiridion and updating the Digital Archive Glossary of Terms and Facts.
- share experience and hands-on takeaways with interns and new joinees.
- perform any other related tasks.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, Arabic Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, Translation Studies, or another related field.
- Three years of experience in translation, content writing, or another related domain;
- The ability to efficiently acquire additional linguistic and specialized knowledge necessary to grasp the source language content and produce the target language content. This also warrants experience in the use of research tools and the ability to develop suitable strategies for the efficient use of the information sources available;
- The ability to make use of information, up-to-date terminology, value systems, and locale that characterize both source and target language cultures;
- The knowledge, abilities, and skills required to pick up with performing the technical tasks in the translation process by employing technical resources, including the tools and IT systems that support the whole translation process.
