Jerusalem was always a beacon of art, culture, tourism, and commerce. Every historical period had its distinct features in the city and was reflective of political circumstances in the Arab World. Where was the Consulate of the United Arab Republic located in Sheikh Jarrah? Which kings and heads of state dined in Azzahra Hotel? How was it that the Kuwaiti Consulate issued flight tickets for Kuwait Airways?

What was Jerusalem like in the 1960s before it was isolated from its Arab surroundings? Which were its most important streets and what distinguished them?

Join researcher Tarek Bakri on a tour of Jerusalem before its occupation. The tour will be based on a printing cliché of a tourist map printed by Jerusalem’s Modern Press. The map highlights the city’s touristic, commercial, cultural, governmental, and diplomatic landmarks outside the walls of the Old City. It was likely printed in 1966 under Jordanian rule.
