Taqsireh

Taqsireh
Ethnographic collection / Coats
Date made Circa 1920 - 1930

Taksiri (overcoat) from the Bethlehem area made of blue velvet and embroidered with orange silk and gilded silver threads. The taksiri is distinguished by its short sleeves as women would wear it over a Malak (king) thobe (dress) with its mradan (long triangular) sleeves draping and typically embroidered with shapes matching the taksiri. It has a cotton lining and is embroidered with tahriri stitches (couching). The sleeves and front panel have dense tatreez (embroidery) with plant shapes, the back panel has light tatreez, and the shoulders have epaulette-like motifs.
