The catalogue traces the main themes of the exhibition, exploring the relation between Jerusalemites and the varying publications printed in their city by probing the ancient profession of the mustamly, who was tasked with dictating manuscripts to copyists and acting as an intermediary between the author and the reading public. In doing so, it deconstructs the duality of emergence and disappearance inherent to the publications of nascent social movements within the city.

The catalogue includes an essay titled ‘Early Printing Presses and their Impact on the Development of Palestinian Culture’, by historian and researcher Mohammed Suleiman; a chapter from writer Mahmoud Shukair’s ‘Qalat lana al-Quds’ (Jerusalem Told Us), titled ‘Jerusalem and the Alterations to Its Streets’; and a reference timeline outlining significant political events as well as the printing presses established in Jerusalem since 1825.
