Journeys of Abu El-Ajab

Location: the Palestinian Museum

Do you enjoy strange tales and far-away adventures? Imagine a box made of wonder that contains inside it a wheel of images, each holding a story that took place in a different time and place. In the past, this box would travel between towns and cities, carrying stories and news, meeting many people along the way, telling them tales and returning full of new ones.

Now at the museum, you can see a real Wonder Box (Sandouq El-Ajab) belonging to the theatrical artist and storyteller Adel Tartir, known as Abu El-Ajab. As you look at the images turning inside it, questions begin to arise: What marvelous stories lived inside this box? Who were the people it visited? And to what places and times did its journeys take it?

Join us in this art workshop as we explore the world of the Wonder Box together. We will imagine its stories and voyages and create new tales that could spin inside it. We will draw and design, and perhaps write imagined events that will become part of the box and begin their own journeys between imagination and narrative.
