Ouneh at the Palestinian Museum: Olive harvest season
For families and children
In partnership with Bank of Palestine
Friday 16 October 2026, 11:00–17:00
Location: the Palestinian Museum
The olive tree runs deep in Palestinian collective identity. We have written poems about it, sung of it in season and out, painted it, and reimagined it across generations and art forms.
This year’s olive harvest comes amid exceptional circumstances. Traditionally, it has been a season of ouneh, drawing the village together as landowners, neighbours, and relatives work side by side to pick and press the olives.
We invite you to gather with us at the Palestinian Museum and share in the season’s bounty and fellowship. Al-Zinnar Women Ensemble from Asira ash-Shamaliya will join us with songs from the Palestinian folk tradition as we pick and preserve olives and spend the day together in work, food, and song.
The day’s programme includes:
- Olive picking in the Museum gardens
- Asrouniya, a traditional afternoon bite shared on the Museum terrace
- Olive pickling workshop
- Olive harvest songs throughout the day
To register, please email education@palmuseum.org to give us an idea of numbers and help us plan the day.
