Have you ever noticed the coloured tiles in an old family home and wondered how they were made?

Join us for a family programme exploring traditional Palestinian tile-making, and discover how simple materials, shaped by artisans’ hands, became patterned floors that coloured Palestinian homes and lived on in their memory.

Across the Museum, families can take part in a series of hands-on activities:

• Tile exhibition tour

An interactive tour tracing the history of Palestinian tiles, their patterns, colours, and the motifs that gave Palestinian homes their distinctive character.

• Traditional tile-making

In collaboration with Aslan Tiles, participants learn how traditional Palestinian tiles are made, then make a tile of their own.

• Clay and colour

With Samah Abboud

Children discover the materials used in tile-making, then shape a clay tile by hand and decorate it with drawings and motifs.

• A rainbow made together

With artist Benji Boyadgian

Children create a shared artwork using colourful geometric shapes.

• Flying carpet

With artist Benji Boyadgian

In this group workshop for adults, participants create patterns and motifs that come together in a shared artwork inspired by a large tiled carpet.

• Prints and patterns

With Riwaq Centre for Architectural Conservation

Children look closely at the forms and motifs of traditional coloured tiles, using inks, colours, and stamps to create repeated patterns and design posters of their own.
